2026-09-06 note— We can't keep operating gpodder.net as a free global service with the functionalities it has had in the past. This is due to storage and processing requirements for more than 100k users.
- podcast indexing broke in 2023. We kept the ability to browse subscriptions and episodes in the website, but it has very limited value for newer data.
- Inactive users have been archived, and the associated data has been purged from the database at the start of 2025. This has let us shrink the database and get faster storage from our sponsor as a consequence.
- The scope has been reduced to serving as a synchronization mechanism between devices since then. The typical use-case we would like to serve is sync between gPodder on the desktop and AntennaPod on an Android device.
- Fresh data consists now mostly of URLs and technical data (not title, description, etc.) and we will likely remove the ability to browse episodes.
- This doesn't prove enough, with about 1-2GB new data to store every month. We are now investigating ways to further limit data volume
As a consequence, we would like you to understand that:
- You won't be able to use gpodder.net as a web-based podcatcher.
- Your account may be archived after 6 months of inactivity.
- Historical data may be reduced to only the latest action per episode per device or to only a few months.
- The web interface on the gpodder.net might be reduced in scope.
self-host your data — if those limitations don't suit you, please consider self-hosting mygpo. Hopefully the installation section of the developer documentation will put you on the right track for a test deployment.
There are open PRs for Docker compose and Kubernetes support that might be a better starting point to your self-hosting.
Also, there seems to be an app called gpodder on YunoHost that might serve your self-hosting needs (totally untested and unreviewed by us).
